

Local and international contractors have submitted bids for two major Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) contracts covering the installation of electrical cables and water transmission pipes across the emirate.
Nine firms submitted offers for the first job, covering the supply and installation of glass-reinforced epoxy (GRE) water transmission pipelines and associated works over a 24-month period.
They are (all local unless stated):
- Al-Nasr Contracting – AED415m ($113m)
- Celar Water Equipment – AED121m for section A only
- Concord Stars Contracting – AED165m for section A only
- Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon (India) – AED249m
- Gulf Contracting & Landscaping – AED121m for section A only
- Gulf Petrochemical Services & Trading (Oman) – AED238m
- Oman International Telecommunication – AED 345m
- Tristar Engineering & Construction – AED311m
- Wade Adams Contracting – AED295m
The second contract covers the supply and installation of 132kV cables for Dewa’s SCIENCEP, PLANTION, EASTVALY, NADSHBRD, RIVRSIDE, SENAATNH, EBTIKAR, SUNRISE and MRFARSHD 132/11KV substations.
The bidders are (all local unless stated):
- AASA Middle East Contracting – AED278m for all sections excluding E and F
- Arar Utility Company – AED242m for all sections excluding E and F
- Centaur Electromechanical Contracting Company – AED380m for all sections excluding section F
- Saudi Modern Company for Metals, Cables and Plastic Manufacturing – AED326m for all sections excluding B and F
- Maetel Instalaciones y Servicios Industriales (Spain) – AED140m for sections C and D only
- Danway Electrical & Mechanical Company – AED143m for sections A & C only
The client is expected to take up to three months evaluating the offers before selecting the successful contractors.
Both contracts were tendered in May.
Bids are pending for four other significant Dewa deals.
The first is for the construction of a new water reservoir of 45 million imperial gallons in Jebel Ali, with prices due by the extended 31 July deadline.
Prices will be submitted by 7 August for the contract to build the ABRJSATW, ESKNKWNJ, MDNTAWIR, MDNTLTF MRKZMALI, ORCHIDST, DANAROAD and HORIZON 132/11-kV substations.
Finally, bids are due on 14 and 28 August respectively for two further projects to supply and install GRE pipes in other areas of Dubai.
