In conversation with Engineer Sultan Sobhi Batterjee, CEO and chairman of IHCC
What are IHCC’s future plans and aspirations in Saudi Arabia?
At IHCC, as the leading construction turnkey solutions provider, we are focused on positioning ourselves as a key player in the transformation of Saudi Arabia’s construction and infrastructure sectors, in alignment with Vision 2030. Our future includes expanding our project portfolio across key industries such as healthcare, education, mixed-use developments, hospitality and complex structure projects while incorporating the highest standards of services and technology such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and high-performance buildings.
Our sustainability arm, GREENER by IHCC, is also leading the way in sustainability solutions, smart cities and renewable energy, responding to the growing demand for green building solutions in the Mena region. Our aspirations are to contribute significantly to the national goals by driving innovation, adopting advanced technologies and delivering high-quality projects that elevate the kingdom’s built environment.
What project opportunities and challenges do you see in the Gulf region?
The Gulf region presents immense opportunities, especially with large-scale infrastructure projects and urban development taking place in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other countries. The growing demand for smart cities, sustainability and state-of-the-art construction technologies offers IHCC numerous avenues to expand its footprint. However, the region also presents challenges, such as the increasing competition within the construction industry and the need for highly skilled talent in specialised fields.
We have overcome these challenges by investing in employee development, embracing technological advancements, and building strong local and international partnerships. We have partnered with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to deliver five leading hospitality brands and continue to lead by example as pioneers in what we do.
What are some examples of impactful projects that the company is currently undertaking?
IHCC is involved in several significant projects, notably in the healthcare, education, hospitality and infrastructure sectors. Examples of our key projects are the development of mixed-use and luxury hospitality complexes designed to cater to the needs of businesses and tourism in different areas including Riyadh, Jeddah, Taif, Dubai and others.
Additionally, we are actively working on several unique and high-end residential towers that are in line with the kingdom’s vision. These projects not only contribute to the growth of the local economy, but also embody our commitment to quality, sustainability and innovation in construction.
How is IHCC investing in its own development to meet the needs of upcoming opportunities?
IHCC is continually investing in the latest construction technologies, project management tools and talent development programmes. We are focusing on adopting advanced digital solutions such as BIM and artificial intelligence to optimise project delivery and improve efficiency. Furthermore, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of engineers and construction professionals by partnering with educational institutions and offering training programmes that focus on the skills needed for modern construction practices.
What do you believe is the role of IHCC in shaping the future of the construction industry?
IHCC is committed to playing a central role in the future of the construction industry by being a leader in innovation, quality, credibility and excellence. We are focused on creating solutions that not only meet the evolving needs of our clients, but also contribute to the development of the healthcare, education, mixed-use, hospitality sectors in addition to developing smart cities and sustainable urban environments.
By embracing new technologies and reinforcing a culture of continuous improvement, IHCC will continue to shape the future of construction, creating a lasting impact on the built environment and driving economic growth in Saudi Arabia and the wider Mena region.
